Hartford Community Court; Hartford, CT

My responsibilities consisted of ;
Intake interviews and assessments, input client information into judicial system, refer clients to inpatient / outpatient programs, preform drug tests, compile and prepare documents for client's court dates, present clients progress and compliance to judge in court. Represent the city of Hartford department of health and human services. There were no changes to what was expected of me over the term of the placement.

I rate this placement as excellent in every category and i highly recommend this opportunity to other students. Interning at the community court will provide you with deep insight into how policy impacts urban communities specifically.

My advice for other students is that the Hartford community court is a "quality of life" court, primarily focused on the rehabilitation of its defendants. With that in mind, it is important to get to know the community and the needs of the community. Take your time to get to know the clients, become familiar with the resources available to Hartford residents and social services clients.
