My primary job responsibilities were to assist my supervisors in both Marketing and Development departments with whatever tasks they felt would be most needed. This included drafting press releases, donor correspondence, tracking or membership and donations, upkeep of contact list database, and producing mailings.
With time my projects and responsibilities did become more important and significant and gave me more responsibility as an intern.
I would rate this site as average but would recommend it to others. Though it is slower paced than I think other public relations positions would be, it gives great insight to the world of PR and marketing on a national, and even global level right out of Amherst.
I think that if more clear directions and a set program were planned for the interns they would have performed better and the museum would certainly have benefited as well.
I would tell students pursuing a field experience placement in the future to be open minded. In the
UMASS area in particular, students are required to be a little more creative when looking for internships that suit their skills and benefit their future. I have found that it was more important to have a position that used my skills, than to find ones that were the exact type of position I wanted to see myself working in after graduation.
