Primary Responsibilities;
-In Charge of a group of 15-25 kids, 1st grade- 4th grade
morning meeting
outside playtime
snack
homework
art
games
gym, and other activities
Leading the kids in a safe, appropriate manner with knowledge of all of their problems and conditions.

I think this placement was between excellent and very good. I would certainly recommend this placement to other interested students. The staff an the kids are very outgoing and nice, it is a good way to learn how to supervise/ teach kids, in many different kinds of activities. If I could change anything about this placement, I would like different hours in the day, maybe work with the school during the day, and then in after school during the evenings.

My advice for other interested students is to make sure that the location and times of the internships will fit into your class schedule without problems.

NxStage Medical Inc; Lawrence, MA

  • Assisting senior engineers in various projects
  • Performing Testing
  • Machining and designing of various components used in dialysis machines
Overall this was a very good placement because it gives a great industrial exposure and hands on experience. I would recommend this site to other students.

St. Luke's House Inc.; Bethesda, MD

My particular position with St. Luke's House was in the Life Skills Program. This particular program works on a class basis in which the mental health patients participate in a number of groups including cooking, reading, computer training, fitness, recovery planning, current events, gardening, and more. My role was to assist both the clients and my supervising counselors by any means necessary while all along learning as much as I can about the particular mental health disorders highlighted at St. Luke's House (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder).

Overall I would rate my placement as excellent and would not change anything about it.

I would highly recommend this site to other students because working at St. Luke's House is the ultimate experience for someone who is trying to become more involved in the mental health field. The direct patient interaction serves as an invaluable experience as many do not get the chance to have this. As an aspiring therapist, I have learned a great deal about helping people who are mentally unwell, and also helping those who are healthy. It was extremely beneficial to have a number of counselors contributing different points of view for the same ultimate goal, which is helping these patients in their recovery and assisting acclimating them back into society.

MSM Protein Technologies Inc.; Medford, MA

I worked in the cancer research lab helping my mentors with various experiments and planning of experiments. I analyzed experimental data, conducted several experiments on my own, and learned about several different processes.
I would rate this internship as average in most areas and would recommend it to other students because it was a great stepping stone from university to real life research. They threw me in the water when I first arrived at the program but I am glad they did. It pushed me to figure things out on my own.
The only thing I would change was that there was a slight language barrier because most of the individuals at the company speak Russian as their primary language. Although I speak Russian, having my education all in English made it a bit difficult at times to understand exactly what was going on at a molecular basis. Understanding someone in another language was difficult at times and some questions were left unanswered due to the language barrier.

I think it is very useful because you learn things that you would not just by attending classes and employers like to see that you have had hands-on experience.

3 Rings Films; Northampton, MA

The primary job responsibilities for me were to;

There is no other place on earth that can give a more inside look at the world of politics and how the federal government works.

If I could change one thing about the placement, I would have been placed into my field of Policies, rather than management and administration since it is not my main area of practice.

It is also an excellent opportunity to watch films you usually wouldn't see and you are able to meet some excellent film makers. I definitely advise taking an internship if you have the chance.

Since they would be interested in topics Jhally discusses in his class, it brings together learning and knowledge from the classroom with practical work skills.
If I could have changed anything about this placement I would have liked to have had the opportunity to learn skills in production as well.

I would rate this internship as very good overall.

I would recommend this site to other students because it was a great opportunity to learn a lot about the law in a career format that caters to students that have very little exposure to the law from previous experiences.

If I could change something about my internship I would have liked to have written more demand letters or I would have liked to have gone to court with my clients.

In addition, ask the other people you meet if they have more people that you could speak to in regards to career paths.

my job was to coach the softball pitchers and guide them both mentally and physically. I also had to keep a log of our daily workouts and track the girls progress. Changes such as what drills we worked on and what piece of pitching mechanics we concentrated on as our main focus changed daily.

I would rate this field placement as excellent in all categories and i would highly recommend this position to other students who are interested. It is a hands on experience instead of reading and testing about how different people learn, you're actually experiencing it and having to figure out which procedures are best for each individual.

My advice to students is to be prepared to need patience, versatility, and don't be afraid to slightly change your plans when situations happen in a workout. Maybe the player needs another focus point that you originally intended. That's OK! Everyone works in a different way and can improve through that difference.
